hanging strop or paddle strop

ok gentlemen which do you perfer a hanging strop or a paddle strop and why thanks

I made a paddle strop a while ago for diamond spray and it worked fine, but I prefer a hanging strop myself. Just personal preference really...!

There are guys here who use paddles exclusively and much prefer those so its really down to which you would rather use. Both work well and both will get the job done so I guess the only advice I can give is to try a few out and see which you like.

I prefer a hanging strop for my regular stropping, but prefer a paddle strop if using any kind of polishing compound, such as diamond spray or crox.

The main reason I prefer the hanging strop is simply because it's the traditional way. And I figure all those old-timers years ago who shaved with straights, because that's all that was available, knew what worked best.

I have both, as a matter of fact, I just made two paddle strops with some help from other members...I prefer paddles for pastes and stuff like that. I do have some that are virgin and I use from time to time. For everyday shaving, nothing beats a hanging strop, not only is it functional, but kind of nostalgic, and you get more stropping action....

Somehow my shave den is not the same without a hanging strop. I must admit, I have never used a paddle strop and cannot state my preference. I might buy a paddle strop someday and give it a try, but for now I am far too attached to my hanging strops.

I use paddles almost exclusively for my daily stropping

It is difficult to find the correct words to describe why I prefer them to hangers, but I find stropping on them to be just 'easier' - everything is just 'right' - must be something to do with my height, arm length etc !

I learned stropping with a hanger, but when I tried a paddle for the first time, the stropping felt so much more 'natural', and that was that !

Currently the main paddle I use is a double sided modular magnetic paddle from Mr Neil Miller, which is built from solid aluminium. I use tallow tanned, latigo, buffalo and felt panels with it. On other felt panels I have CrOx & 0.5 micron diamond. It is a fine strop.

Paddles also excel for travel use - you don't have to worry about creasing a hanging strop, and you also don't have to worry about finding somewhere to hang the strop in a hotel room

Try a paddle and see if you like it !

I prefer a hanging strop. It suits my lifestyle and my style of travelling and it's much easier to store than a paddle. Sometimes I will have a few just hanging around on my towel rack, quite literally. Try that with a paddle. OH PLEASE SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER! Paddle strops. Pah!

I prefer paddles for wedges and hanging strops for hollow grinds. I think it because I find it easier to get a degree of roll on a paddle as the surface is perfectly flat
