here's a photo of the original instructions that came with the strop.
The material is an artificial hone material developed by Allegro specifically for that purpose. They were quite famous for that in the old days and these strops were considered the "Rolls Royce" of the pack.
The company was based in Emmenbruecke, which is close to Lucerne. They closed down in 1976.
