can I strop with my belt?!
Hi there everybody.
I am a really poor, financially challenged student and I was wondering if I can strop my future straight razor (I just ordered a vintage one from a member) with my belt. he told me to post the pictures so the experts can help me out.
I know it is so ghetto but I am a broke student ;(

Thanked: 3795You really increase the likelihood of trashing your edge by stropping with a belt. You can make a strop out of a strip of denim, or cardboard, or newspaper mounted on a flat surface.

Thanked: 154You can certainly use your belt as a strop. But you can get decent strops for not too much money, so to save wear on your belt consider doing a little shopping around town or online.
Edit: Utopian's suggestions are even better than mine (wish I'd thought of them).Last edited by JeffR; 12-20-2010 at 10:40 PM.

You know, you can, but I wouldn't...Check this out...
Tandy Leather Factory - Natural Cowhide Leather Strap 1-1/2" x 50"
That's Tandy Leather..If there's one near by, they have scrap pieces of leather...
That link shows you a piece that's 50 inches long x 1 1/2 for 12.99 so I'm sure they'd have a small piece for a few bucks, Tell them what your doing and they'll help you out, maybe even punch it on one end so you can tie to a door knob...When I went there they were very helpful...Last edited by zib; 12-20-2010 at 10:45 PM.

An Armani strop! That thing is probably more expensive than most of the strops out there I wondered this same thing when I started, but when it comes down to it, a good strop and some rust resistant oil are the best way to protect your investment, not to mention your face.

Hey danielghofrani
I have a Tony Miller Apprentice strop that I picked up here from a member a wile back. It is leather only but a start, others may be able to guide you on helping with another fabric to use in place of webbing or wool. It is yours if you want it. PM me your address and I will get it out to you this week.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
Steve

Even better I have a DOVO Prima Rindleder Strop that was my first strop that has leather and cotton. The leather is a bit nicked but you can use the cotton web and past the leather. I will send them both to you. They are not being used any longer by me.
