Default Help before I ruin my edge(s)

    Gentlemen,

I need to ask for your help regarding the SRD English bridle strop. First, let me say that I was lucky enough to receive both the regular and long version this past Christmas as SWMBO and mother-in-law did not communicate before making their purchases-got to love them. These strops are fantastic! My simple but seemingly noob-ish question...is the backside of the leather treated with diamond spray or anything else? I ask because the backside of the two strops have slightly different appearances. I would hate to take a shave ready edge to the backside if this is not the case. I looked on SRD's website but it doesn't say. I have searched through about 20 pages of the strop forum but can't seem to find the answer. The second question is about the webbed fabric. Has anyone noticed a difference in the feel of their edge after stropping on it versus stropping on canvas. For the last year, I have used a TM latigo/canvas strop and once trying out the english bridle with the webbed fabric, it felt as if my edge was just not as smooth as with the TM combo. Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The backside of the strops is not treated with anything. I normally do not put anything on the back of strops other than pastes. The sprays really work best on felt.

When I first tested the poly webbing, I tested it against cotton fabrics, linen, hemp and canvas and found that it worked as well or better than any of these. It definitely has it's own sound, but from a performance standpoint, it has been awesome. Tony Miller and most other strop guys started offering it after we introduced it into the market. To me, the only difference so far has been in personal preference, not in performance.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

Thanks Lynn! Over the last month or so, I stropped on the TM canvas and then switched to the leather of the english bridle. I will give the webbed fabric another go. Thanks.

I have a webbed from SRD and it works great. I notice no difference in my razors between it and linen or canvas. it feels very smooth as you strop.

Ditto. I love the long English Bridle and the fabric. I use it to start 25/30 then I finish on the SRD Premium 1.
