IIRC, I didn't need to do anything to the Filly when I bought mine. I remember I had to lay it flat for a while, because it came curled up. Then I just rubbed it with my hand a bunch of times to heat it up a bit, and get it ready for the razor.

You should be good to go. Just remember that the little green patch on the rough side is for touch ups, and not daily stropping. Use the smooth side for everyday razor maintenance.

    Good luck.

Some strops can be very stiff and hard and in those cases some folks will roll a bottle or rolling pin on it to "break it in". Sometimes some leather conditioner or the oil from your hand is used. If the strop is fairly soft and supple I wouldn't do anything to it.

Pitfalls? Go slow and easy and don't nick the strop or damage the razor. Easy eh? Check the Wiki and do a search. We have some excellent posts and how to's on stropping technique.

Nothing towads you but i wish people would get it thru thir head that the HHt is mearly a parlor trick, ZThe shave test is the big test,

Now congrads on a successful stroppign session, now do this everyday before you shave and that razor will stay sharp for a while mate. when stroppign no longer makes the edge keen again then it is time to get a barberhone to touch it up on but for now just worry about stropping correctly, Good luck and we are all hear for ya.h

I too am using the filly after buying a crap strop off of ebay despite sound advice. I found the leather to be pretty supple, and as several folks have mentioned above, It's simply a matter of making sure it's straight.

    Peace,
    Conor

I bought the filly on recommendation from Steve (shooter74743) who sold me a sweet vintage razor.

The directions I received with the strop say all you need to do is give it a good hand rubbing.
