My New Strop from Star Shaving!! Beautiful
Hi folks,
Listen, I just bought the 'Big Daddy' from Star Shaving. Talk about a good strop. Barebones, to save expenses, but 3" wide of perfect leather, with the felt strop along with it (3" also).
Not that I'm an expert, but I felt the difference the first night I used it. It really is worth every cent I spent on it.
If you haven't checked it out, you should. These strops from Star are really the very best I found for the $$$$.
Just my opinion, but I really wanted to share it...
Thanks folks!!-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Thanked: 993Excellent. Good strops are a key component to maintaining that shaving sharp edge. Glad you're enjoying yours.

I have one and really like it. It has Chicago screws, so you can buy just a replacement piece of leather if you had to for replacement without buying a whole new setup. I use Neatsfoot Oil on it (I have the blonde 3" wide) and that seemed to make quite a differenc on glide of the razor along it. Just curious, though, on the wool felt. Is it used a a predecessor to the leather or after the leather?

I have one as well... I use the felt before the leather. Before the shave I give the razor 50 on the felt and 50 on the leather. After the shave the razor gets about 30 on each (usually because by that time I'm late for something). I think I saw some magnified edges on these pages that clearly showed the edge was a lot smoother after the leather.
At first I didn't use the felt at all, but since I started using it before the leather I'm glad I did. My edge seems a lot keener.

The felt/wool/linen is used before the leather to help align micro tears/whatever you call them before it goes to leather to smooth things out. You will probably want another felt/wool/linen strop down the road to use CrOx or diamond sprays on.

I too purchased the blond 3" 'Big Daddy' and the hardware is well thought out and implemented to perfection. An yes, I'll have to get another felt strop for some pasting soon.
The felt and strop work to perfection, I haven't had such a good shave since I first got my razor back from honing.
Larry has a perfect razor travel roll (in felt, terry cloth and fleece) that is next on my list!!
Thanks to Larry for some great less expensive stuff!!-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

I own a couple of Rons strops and yes I love them also, Big Daddy[3"Burgandy] and a Big Mamma[2 1/2" Black Latigo] both are great and yes useing Neetsfoot oil does help, go slow though, don't drown it!!
[ps: I do have to many strops at this point, might sell a couple on the Classifieds here at
SRP, if I can just figure out how it's done]
Once again, just my opinion, tinkersd [30]
