    Default Whats the difference

Just wondering and if this has been beat to death I am sorry. What is the difference between all the different leather strop materials? Being new to straights I am just curious if it is personal preference or what.

I do believe it is personal preference, and that preference is called "draw".

Draw is the friction created between the steel and the leather as the razor is passed over the strop. Different leathers create different draw. SRD's website does a great job explaining what each strop feels like, IMO.

Personally, I like lots of draw. Their Premium I and III are my favourite leather materials.

Ok that makes since. I got the modular strop and I got the premium I with it and I understand draw (didnt realize that it had a name) I will have to get some of the other offerings for it and try them out. I will do some research on SRD.
    Thanks MAXI

The Bridle leather is available for the modular paddle. I treated mine with lather, and it now has great draw, which I like. The premium I, even treated with lather, has less draw, although I like that as well.

Not likely. Some guys think that more draw produces a better edge, some don't. But there really isn't any physical evidence that can back up any claims. Again, it's all personal preference. A lot of that preference comes from how a razor feels on the strop as opposed to the final result (ie the shave itself).

Ok thanks. This is all good info to know. I believe I will stick with the setup I have for now and work on the shave before I venture any further into strops. I do know the next one will be a hanging strop though mostly for nostalgia.

Good point. The better stropping feels to you, the better job you'll end up doing i'd say. And I'll just add that i like a nice medium draw =)
