Kangaroo leather bench strop - Magnetic
I just finished making another magnetic leather pad for my trusty bench strop. The superb kangaroo first grade leather was sent to me by MickR all the way from "down under" to try out - much appreciated mate!
I used Gorilla glue to mount the leather on the magnetic pad.
First of all, the grain of this leather looks great, even though it is extremely thin (almost 1/32" thin) it has a lot of padding to it, and it is top quality stuff. In my opinion, this works exceedingly well on the pads for a bench strop. The hard backing of the magnetic pad keeps the leather absolutely stable & flat, and obviously will have zero stretching.
The draw of this leather is just perfect, I can't believe many, many more strops (especially bench strops & paddle strops) aren't made from Kangaroo leather because it works like an absolute charm, and is a pleasure to strop on.
I stropped one of my most trusty Dovo's on it today after I finished making it, and the edge feels great. Shave test tomorrow morning!
The third photo is a close-up of the grain of the leather - gorgeous, and perfect grain for stropping, IMO.

If you guys go into business, can I be your first customer? I love paddles, and I have a soft spot in my head for Kangaroos as well.

Thanked: 993The magnetic pads and paddles are excellent. I'm loving the SRD mod paddle, and I'm frequently using the one that I made the other week.
I like the size of yours, and the rubber feet on the bottom. Very cool bench strop.

Very nice paddle you made there Maxi, good idea to keep the holes in it, I assume you can still use it as a hanging strop when you attach it to the SRD handle?
Thanks again for the samples mate, you were right about this leather...it's the bees knees!
