Default Anyone have the new SRD "The natural" 3" strop ???

    Hello,

I was just on Straight razor designs site about to buy a strop and on the right hand side of the home page they had a new strop shown. The call it "The Natural" 3" strop. Its vegetable tanned with no additives hint the name "The Natural". The quality seem just as nice as all the other more expensive strops they offer but its $64.99! I cant decide if I want "The Natural" 3" or the 3" Premium I Leather Strop, Its on sale for $76.49. Oh and whats the difference between the 100% hard pressed wool felt, SRD premium fabric, and the regular webbed fabric? Will one actually produce a noticeably better shave then the other two?

    Thanks,

    Chris

My feeling is that all quality leather strops do the same job. The differences are really style and feel and the luxury about it and maybe the hardware and of course the size. As far as the cloth part goes some are better suited for pasting like the felt. As far as the webbing goes I have it and it is the equal to canvas or linen.

I was lucky enough to be awarded a premium II (i think) as a door prize at the Houston meet. I probably would have gone with the natural if I had purchased it. I use mostly wedges and I feel they benefit from a good heavy draw provided by naturals. I am using the leather for my concave blades with great success! The nylon is awesome! It really zips as you strop and is very effective for any razor!

I can tell you that many of us love the Premium I, myself included. It has a soft buttery feel. It's a very luxurious strop.

The poly-webbing: Very fast, slick. Great, great, great edge on the razor. Very flexible material.

The premium fabric: similar to a very thick canvas. It has a stiffer feel when stropping, but I also love this one.

Hard felt: exactly that. pressed felt, excellent for impregnating sprays such as Crox or Diamond. A softer feel if used as a second strop. I used to love it for drying my razors after a shave.

I own all three. If I bought a new strop tomorrow, I'd by the poly-webbing. It's awesome.

@ Maxi - I have the hard pressed wool and the poly webbing but i went to switch to the poly webbing and the pins in the strop are too long! do SRD sell the small pins to suit the swap?

I have The Natural, and I love it. I didn't find the Premium I to be as effective and sold it... The Natural will come quite slick and feel kind of harsh out of the box, but rubbing your palm on it until it feels real warm all over before each use, will make a huge difference. After about a week, it's great, and I've found it be quite effective in improving the edge quality too. I am working on a review, but that requires I use it for longer than I have so far. Initial thoughts are 1) this is a tremendous value and 2) I suspect latigo as a entry level strop will be history

I don't believe they do, however....if you have a tandy leather close by, you can get them there. You'll need "Chicago Screws", and they'll need to be 1/4".

Alternately, you can check ebay. That's actually where I picked up my first bag, before I realized that I lived close to a Tandy.
