John, I have a small Tony Miller 2" strop which I lay flat on the bottom of my suitcase or on top of the clothing. I've had no problem.

Traveling is a great time to break out the DE. I bring a DE, a shave stick, and a brush.

I've got one of the roo travel strops made by Legion. It rolls up nicely and fits in a chrome soap tube. I've just come back from being on holiday for 2 weeks and I took it with me. It worked great.

I did consider replacing the existing leather with some kangaroo leather, being thin and flexible, but the piece that is in it is seriously a nice bit of leather - I mean really a nice piece. So I took it out and fixed it up as best I could. There were a lot of nicks in it when I got it, mainly along the edges, but the leather itself was still supple. It really is an excellent strop actually.

You don't happen to know who manufactured that strop, do you?

The ones that I have seen were made by The Torrey Razor Co.

I've never tried a DE. Which razor & blade combination would shave somewhat like a 5/8 full hollow ? Is it hard to adjust the angle the blade is to the skin during the stroke (which is something I find I need to do with a straight to get a smooth AND comfy shave) ? I also tend to like lighter straight razors. Do the DE's work well in lighter weights (I hear "only use the weight of the head" a lot in DE posts) ?

    Thanks.
