    Default My new Chinese strop

ok, now that I have your attention. lets have some fun. I have been over in China for the last 10 days and still 5 to go. on Day one I left my new strop at a hotel in Shanghai.

I brought over some items to keep me entertained I will list them off.

    1) norton 4/8
    2) small Thuringin hone
    3) 5 Straights 4 of which my plan is to hone my hone skills, one shave ready.(J.R.&Sons wedge)
    4) one portable DMT for lapping
    5) small piece of 1/8 plywood to tape my Thurinin for protection in flight.
    6) normal luggage with nylon webbed straps. ( shiney thin leather belt ) tried it, didn't help.
    7) normal hotel items. IE Chinese Newspaper

so item #7 got me to thinking from reading the newly infamous thread going on. I wondered if I could really use my norton 4/8 as a flat plate and some chinese newspaper to really do all that good of a job? it's in the WIKI after all.

based on the items I have at hand. what would you use?

This thread is mainly for fun, but does bring up a good question. What would be good for traveling that is available at hotel instead of bringing over a high end strop to risk losing? and the hard part is what would work best, not just good enough.

You noticed I am in china right? No YouTube or Facebook or twitter..

I did walk the streets looking for something to use. That was I was in Beijing over the weekend. Now I am back to work in some industrial town Changzhou.. There isn't much here within walking distance of the hotel. So no luck on that. Although my hosts said the would take me to a flea market this week. Not sure if I explained to them correctly about what a flea market is. I will find out.

Not to worry, you did not sound harsh. The internet policy in China on the other hand, that is a bit harsh. But who am I to question?

If youīre in a tight spot a newspaper and your forearm or palm will serve as strop-replacement for a couple of days minimum

I remember Seraphim - that's probably one of his modified Gold Dollars.

last night I use my new Chinese Strop, a Chinese Yellow pages to be exact. I couldnt find a newspaper so I figured this would do.
I gave it around 50 strokes and shaved. I would say it worked just fine. perhaps I will use this method from now on instead of bringing my leather on trips. I don't want to lose another one.
