The Superior Shave Horween shell cordovan strop
Second purchase from Jarrod and... this is the best leather I have so far, and I own enough. I always wanted to get Horween shell cordovan and finally got one. What a leather, I just love it! It is just about the feel that shell cordovan gives to you.. perfect leather.

Thanked: 16Nice pictures. I also got the same strop from The Superior Shave and am very happy with it. It is very slick however, and takes some getting used to because shell cordovan seems to be thinner and more delicate than other strop leathers. It may ultimately turn out to be less durable. I don't know that it does a better job compared to other quality leathers, but it sure is a pleasure to use.

Thanked: 2027Actually, vintage Horse shell strops are very thick,3+mm,They can be thick because shell is far more pliable being what it is.The above strop to me looks far to thin for shell,JMO

It is important to understand what shell cordovan is. Shell is not horse butt in general, it is just relatively small area on horse ass.
Not really. Typical horse butt strop sometimes thick. But not 2 vintage horse strops that I have. Only one pictured here. I took this picture couple of month ago. TM latigo and modern horse , TM latigo and 2 vintage horse. No shell cordovan there.

Hey Traskrom - have you ever tried a "Roo" strop? Just wondering if you could provide a comparison as I was thinking about buying a strop like yours, but ultimately decided on the Roo instead.

earcutter, I really enjoy my Roo strops. I have a Legion strop and a SRD Roo strop. They develop the kind of draw I like
for all my full hollow to 3/4 hollow blades.Bob

I have a very old, but in superb condition, 'Koken' shell strop that is very thin. Quick in the draw dept .... IOW not much draw ..... but a great strop.

That's great to know as i am leaning more and more toward my full hollows - thanks.
I was always under the impression though that horse but was the most desirable leather to have so I am surprised there are nay “sayers”. That said folks say leather is leather and that newspaper is just as good LOL! Who knows?
I threw my money at the Roo if only because it's malleable - but I would love me some horse but too lol!
Maybe one day when I stop slicing them all up lol!! Either way congrats - shipping to Russia must be a bear!!David
