2" V 3"
If there is anyone out there who's started out with a 2" strop and wondered if it was worth getting a 3" - I'll say this - "it is."
I have always been a two inch strop guy. I bought into the whole cupping issue being a nightmare on a 3," and the whole x-stroke is way better than a straight up and down. Well first off, a two inch strop can cup too lol. And not using an x-stroke on my new 3" strop didn't make even a slight difference to me.
I'll even go out on a limb here and say that i think that a 3" might actually be easier to use than a 2". Just less things to think about. I don't think I'll ever buy a 2" again.
Anyway - that's my experience. What do you gents feel on the issue of 2 v 3?David

Thanked: 334I have a Illinois #127 2 1/2" (16 years old) and I've been thinking of getting a 3" from whippeddog.com. A buddy of mine let me use his the last time I was in TN and I thought it was great! I guess I'm just too lazy to get one yet.
ANNE!! Gimme another Kokanee!

What about 2.5"? That's the optimum size for me.. Can deal with 2 when traveling, didn't like 3, but 2.5's perfect.

To me, a strop is a strop. They all do the same job no matter if it's 2", 2 1/2" or 3". Where the 2" and 2 1/2" win out is in the variety of materials available vs what you can find in the 3" range.

I prefer a 2 1/2" strop. So much so that I actually cut my SRD Premium 1 three inch strop down to 2 1/2". I have owned a few 3" strops but sold them and stick with 2.5 or in the case of a Hand American and my Kanayama I think they are 2 3/4.

It's fun to hear so much talk about 2.5" inch - I only know of three places I could order one and two of those three are on back order lol.
Never thought about cutting one down lol : ) That's just a great idea lol!Last edited by earcutter; 07-19-2012 at 05:10 AM.

Star Shaving offers "The Big Momma" line of 2.5" strops in a couple of choices of leathers. Can't attest to their quality as I've never tried'em but I've heard good things about them from a couple of members, but can't offer my endorsement until I've put my babies to them.
