so what do you guys think?
alright guys, so i have planned to purchase a new strop strictly 3" wide. I have 2 options
1) my first option are strops from srd. i just love all of them! particularly the red latigo strop with leatther handle ($64.99) which i have practically fallen in love with.. i also find that the prices for such quality products are excellent. sadly the shipping costs are just too high (another $49.50) which really makes me want to consider the purchase.
2) i have come to like the 3" big daddy burgundy english bridle which i have found on ebay for $37.99 being sold by starshavingsupplies and an extra of $8.95 for shipping.
so what are your thoughts on the big daddy? is $38 for a 3" wide leather strop too good to be true? is there a catch to it? i really like it and i think if i am unable to purchase strops from srd (particularly the red latigo) the big daddy is a suitable candidate for a good strop. but that is really just what i think and my thoughts are really based on very crude instincts and observation. i would really appreciate guidance regarding the matter .

I think you may want to contact the seller of the "big daddy" strop and be sure you have the correct amount for
shipping to the UAE. Seems to low to me.Bob

We in the USA have the latigo and the horsehide. The Aussies have the kangaroo strops and the UK their 'English bridal'. I wonder what camel hide would be like ? Is there a market in countries with a large population of camels for their hides, the way there is here for cow and horse hide ?

Get the SRD strop. Look at the strop as a tool for all your straights. Once you see the shipping is similar you'll kick yourself for letting $60 bucks stand between you and a great product. Here is the math, as I see it. The SRD strop is worth $120, the big daddy is not worth $50.

thanks! that is all i needed to know! you got me all fired up ! i know that the SRD would last virtually forever, i just wanted to know if similar qualities could be attributed to big daddy. i also feel like buying something special...ill get the big daddy some time later out of curiosity of when my SAD kicks in..but for now it seems the red latigo would be the right one!
thanks again!

Your welcome. Practice a bit, sans razor, and you'll be fine with higher quality. Your appreciation of the strop is important. You may not really find big differences in the quality of the edge, but the overall quality Of the strop will be self-evident.

Marhaba!
Alan is good, Alan is wise... The SRD strop is pretty much the way to go on this one. And I'd wager once the itch for a newer leather toy creeps in again, you'll know a lot more about what qualities you want in one.

lol..ahem.."shalom"...i dont really know what "marhaba' means (haven't learnt any of the language here)
i know the srd strops look amazing im actually willing to pay the extra shipping because i know itll last a life time! i have been using the poor man strop from larry and to be honest it has been really good so far, came a little warped but it also came with instructions! applied a little neatsfoot oil as our good friend larry suggested and left it to rest overnight. the next day i had a strop which was absolutely perfect especially for what i paid. i really like the leather too, its nice and smooth. but the itch commands me...for something far superior. i could really wait a few months and purchase it when i go back to Toronto with lesser shipping costs but thats just a long time. i also came across some really good strops from the superior shave but they just didnt appeal to me (AS MUCH as the red latigo) although i will buy the oil tanned russian leather as i seem to have a thing for dark colored strops. i really wanna thank you guys for helping me to reinforce my decisions as i am only a student and my mind keeps wandering off to cheaper alternatives. hopefully i will not make a fool's decision!
