    Default New Strop

I've been using a Philly strop since I started wet shaving. I nicked up the first one a little, and bought a new one. I told myself that if I didn't nick that one up I'd get a better strop. Not that the Philly is bad. I'd recommend it to anyone starting out. Well it's still not nicked, and my wife wants to get me something for our anniversary. I was thinking the SRD Prem. 1. It's out of stock now, but will be in, in a week or two. Now, here's my question. I here people say the give 30 passes on the strop. Is this 30 per side of the razor or 30 total, which would only be 15 per side? So how do you properly use a strop with a leather and linen strops? How many strokes per side on the linen? And then how many strokes per side on the leather? Thank you for the help.

My daily pre shave stropping routine is to do 20 round trip passes on the non leather part and 60 round trip passes on the leather part of the strop. Just to be clear, a single pass for me is once up and back.

It's personal preference, nothing set in stone. I think the norm is around 25/50 give or take. That's 25 on linen or the fabric part, and 50 on the leather, so 50 passes is 50 round trip passes. Down and back up is 1.
