I have probably a 80-100 years strop with many nicked areas but does not decrease strop performance at all. Razor (with time) will polish even nicked strops.

I've nicked my strop a fair few times, especially when I first started. I think I've sanded it to within an inch of it's life now. Just need to get some more oils back into it as it's completely lost any draw & I like the satisfying feeling of draw. On the other hand I could just buy a better strop (a 3" one with a linen side). It'll give me something else to slice into other than my fingers.
