Nicked it :(
Well, it had to happen sooner or later. I finally nicked my strop after shaving with the straight for around 2 months now. Just when you think things are getting more comfortable and 2nd nature; that's when that nice sharp blade reminds you that it is a thing to be respected. Let's just hope that this lesson learned on leather is rememberd while I take that sharp piece of steel to the living leather that is my face.
(It wasnt a bad nick and it is all the way at the top end...a little fillet with no rough edges)

Contact cement will fix a fillet. Welcome to the strop nickers club. I think most all of us are members or soon to be.

I was pretty proud of myself for not nicking my strop in a little over a year of SR shaving. Then I changed where my strop was hanging and my cat used it to sharpen her claws. I guess it was meant to be.

There is a YouTube video of a guy showing how to strop, shaving is part of his profession.
He has the camera looking down towards his feet, some of you may know the one I mean.
As he grabs one of about four he has hanging in front of him to show the technique of stropping he points out one that he has nicked and simply says anyone can get caught out, even the Pro's.
I have a couple of small nicks on mine, if Pro's do it, then I'm not too worried
Also I tend to use the modular paddle I got from SRD these days and take my time when using it, because slow and steady wins the race
Cheers,
Paul

Thanked: 3Hey guys,
Well I just nicked my new strop as well. Can you tell me if 600 grit sand paper and Contact cement would do the trick?

Experience: its what helps you recognize a mistake when you make it again.

I just nicked mine this afternoon as well so you're in good company today!
.. perhaps there is something in the air or a "Saturday the 16th" is a bad day for strops instead of "Friday the 13th" haha
