Thanked: 4942Hi James,
As with all methods of honing; whatever works for you. Mastro Livi has many years experience at this and his method works well. The razors we get from him are normally ready to shave and what a sweet shave you get. Not sure on all the grits of the stones he uses. There is a Coticule in the mix though, I believe second from the end. I'll have to ask what grit progression he uses.
Have fun,
Lynn

Thanked: 2I was wondering what the stones were too, the third is definatly a coticle, the first looks like a Norton combo or similar lower grit combo. Whats the second and last one?

Jees, first time I saw these vids on the tube I though he was some backwards italian fellow who didn't know a bit about razors... Guess I was a tad off...
He could do with a smaller hammer though, no use to wear yourself out with a 3 pound sledge when half that and more heat would do a better job...

it's kinda surprising how hard he slaps the razor down on the stones and strops.
guess it works for him, though.

I'd still love to know what stones he is using in these videos.

mate i married an italian and have learnt that you NEVER tell the old man its easier to use a lighter hammer....he will just go and get a bigger one to show you how he can still keep up with the young people!
maybe if someone told mastri that he needs a few more helpers to make razors faster we would see some new stuff at SRD sooner!!
