Thread: Joseph Rodgers Restoration/Optimization (Maybe a WIP?)

I picked up this usual Evil-bay find. This is going to be my first restoration.

Here is what I plan on doing:
-Fully restore the blade up until honing and sharpening
-Carbon fiber scales with bronze wedge
-brass pins and washers
-Maybe adding some jimping for grip.

If you guys like keeping things as original as possible....BE WARNED!

Let me know what you guys think so far and of my goal. I have already started unpinning it, but since Im ditching the original scale, I could just snap them off. But that is much to barbaric!

+1 on what pixel said. The scales look ivory. Recale the blade but maybe think about repurposing the ivory scales.. Maybe reshape to fit another blade or keep it for wedge material.. Good luck with the restoration. Looking forward to to swing the results. FYI carbon fiber is hard stuff, don't know if you have worked with carbon fiber before but you might wanna try working with black g10 or micartA before you dive in to carbon fiber. Just my $.02

Yea, I have worked with carbon fiber a decent amount coming from a knife background(we use carbin fiber like toothpaste!).

And maybe I can reuse the Ivory in bolsters or inlays. If not Ill send the Ivory to someone here that I know would put it to good use.

Nice, I'm looking forward to seeing the carbon fiber scales- I feel like as often as it used on knives it is not that common to see on razors- which is odd bc it's such awesome material- that lightning strike carbon fiber with the brass lace it it is pretty cool too.

Thats exactly what I thought my first couple of hours on this forum!

And now they are making LSCF with aluminum wire instead of brass or copper, so I think that would look really nice with the polished blade!

But thats just my thought!

Well I got it unpinned. And if anybody would like these scales just let me know and Ill gladly send them out to you.

And....unfortunately there was a crack in the blade...but I think I dodged a bullet with this one because the crack is about 10-12mm away from the toe side of the razor(Just toe?) and goes up about 50% of the way to the spine. I am probably just going to grind the blade back a bit, maybe make the toe rounder(French?)
