Blowing off everyone else's needs to-day and working on my room a bit.
Got my little mug collection all up
Now to get the razors into their respective cases....Need to bend-up some more stands.
Got my TufGlide, Renwax, Maas, Neverdull, mineral oil all out.
Gonna start on the American razors.

I got this a while ago and just opened it. It's in amazing condition except this little bit of rust in the middle of the wash. Any hints on removing without damage?

The wash is very delicate so whatever approach you use needs to be done with caution. I know I am probably stating the obvious. I would use some masking as best as possible then try to reduce it slightly with a razor blade and perhaps a blue earaser, again being very gentle and watch progress, following the blue eraser with either a pink or a white one. There is fiberglass pencils too, but I don't have one so cannot speak to that. I would follow my treatment up with some careful polish with a q -tip then pull the mask off and see if it will pass the mark. If it isn't really there repeat. Work like this I often do while wearing an 8X visor.
The gold is already history under the rust so if you were successful in removing the rust you'd end up with a shiny spot instead of a dark one.Quote:

A very tight woven Q-Tip like the small one's for children's ears, dipped in white vinegar. Swirl it around on the spot of rust.

The new display on the right is now home to the 'hardware/barber supply' razors. Figure to gain several spots in the German and a few in the American displays that way.... See what I did! :D
The other shelves in it (on the right) will be home to my few Swedish, French, and Japanese razors.

A better pic than last nights i think. I have cleaned it up a bit usi g cotton tips. My query is would this survive as is if I cleaned it up and kept it oiled when not in use?

If you are asking if the rust might come back in that exact spot, my answer is it can, however it needs to be wet to have one of the key ingredient for rust. That can come from the air. It you wax your razor it minimizes it. When we are cleaning the old steel I doubt we ever get 100% of the old rust out. It is sneaky and it never sleeps. You can always wait and see how well it survives and deal with it if it arrises.
Should be fine, just keep it clean and lightly oiled. And completely dried before oiling.
I've got plenty with black rust in the pits, but show no signs of new (active) rust.

I've noticed on some of my razors that a mild rust will eventually disappear with use.......honing, stropping, shaving, and proper oiling. I apply a generous coat of CLP brand oil when I'm through with a given razor. When that razor comes up again in rotation, I wipe off the oil with a flannel rag it gradually takes a little more of the crud off. Case in point is my John Doe no name that my family used to scrape a hog years ago. That blade is now super smooth with a beautiful gun metal patina.Quote:

Finished the first set of scales for the Butchers. Sanded to 1000 grt. , polished with Howards Restore-A-Shine, and sealed with Jubilee kitchen Wax, staying with that soft, natural, ebony glow.
The pics don't do them much justice, their awesome to see in hand.

The last project in my old workshop and before the move in the small one I made inside the garage (missus loved the old workshop so much that she decided a better life for it as her new summerhouse). Some errors in regards the location of holes (slipping drill); the shields were pinned - for the next ones I'll try to inlay them
