Some ugly S.O.B. sent it to me. Figured I'd put it to use once in a while. Thanks, Roy. It works well for plain jane collars. I used the #2 position.
S.O.B?

Getting close on my Packwood restore. I'm finally happy with the shape/fit of the scales - wound up doing minor shaping tweaks twice, after I'd polished them up :gaah:. Guess I'll learn that lesson eventually. Got my wedge made and the blade looks to center and close well with the mock up bolts. So, just need to finish up the scale polish, pin it, and final shape the wedge. Hopefully I'll get to the pinning tomorrow or the next day. I'll check back here before I start to see if anyone has seen some giant error I've made. Couple of quick pics below.
I've also been making good progress on what may be my most ambitious razor project yet - Catching up with this thread. Yikes! Outback kinda half dared me a while back, but he didn't know I was already like 50 pages in. I'm up to around 775 now, almost 1/2 way!. I'd be farther if it wasn't for all of the side trips to other threads from the links. I'll have to go back to the butchered blade thread. It's been really cool to see all of the great work that's been posted; crazy seven day set of hypnotic zebra stripe razors, beautiful carved bone scales, amazing antique ivory/tortoise shell/mop scales, brushes. Wow lots to see and learn. Lots of little tools I'll be making like magnetic razor holder ect. My hat is off to you all.:chapeau:chapeau One of these day's I'll finish getting up to date.
Looks good! Take the wedge out and smash it some more!
Thanks for the quick feed back. Have considered it, but I kinda like the height above the scales right now. It won't take much to raise the blade with the near wedge profile. I can lift the blade by gently pinching the scales together. This kirinite is pretty slippery. Thought the taper was a bit close to a spacer, but the pivot ends of the scales ride with the tang through the opening/closing arc. Not much taper at the tail. If you all think it would look better a little higher it shouldn't take much and hitting things with hammers is always fun ;).
Reading this thread from the beginning is ambitious. I think your wedge is kind of spacer looking. I think that is what Tom was saying too. I had wondered about editing the thread to make it more streamline, like removing some of the banter, but then it would be dry as hell. I think the banter makes it fluid and interesting beyond simple razors. Any Packwood blade open in scales pictures. The tortoise pattern looks good.
I think what Tom meant by smash it is to make it more of a wedge shape, it will help the scales work properly. Keep the side closest to the razor the same size or just a tiny bit narrower, as you make the wedge a wedge shape it will now the scales a little and the blade will drop ever so slightly deeper into the scales.
Ya....The old Wedge-O-Mat is hard to beat.

Other than that, gotta 'beat' them into submission! :rofl2:
They are called wedges for a reason.
