Sharptonn !! Are You Staying Dry ?? Attachment 271960
Very nice, Jerry. Those Griffon's are nice shavers.
I will have to remember that. Go thin with bone!
Thanks Outback and Scouthikerdad! It didn't come out exactly like I wanted but close enough to shave with that's for sure.
Jerry, I think you did a great job on that even thought pinholes were close to the end. I have some scales I have done that to by accident because I was drilling them out by hand.

Last night I had a lot of flood & tornado warnings on cable & my phone. I imagine Tom did also. Then right as I was about to lay down at 4 am, it started getting windy at times & I expected it to get worse but it slacked up some. I did notice earlier last night, I opened the sliding patio door while it was raining & usually it is cooler when raining but it was hot. Now we're getting more warnings on cable because the rain started up again.
I saw this parked across the street, so I zoomed in on it & got a good pic. That guy has the right idea. I just had 2 emergency flash flood warnings on cable within 3 minutes.

I actually decided to get rid of my Dremel drill press kit & I bought this small drill press for hobbyists. It is precise. It also has a digital readout for depth & is variable speed.

I think Harvey has finally made it here because I took my dog out for his walk earlier & I'm glad I did because it was just starting to rain a little & was thundering when we got back home & now there have been many tornado warnings on tv & on my cell phone. The wind will probably be kicking up soon.
Good luck Tom, I hope your garage living room doesn't flood.
It looks like that little drill press has a nice little XYvice on it too, which can be bloody handy.
Stay dry Texans!
It does Shaun. I would always get peeved when I would spend a lot of time making some scales or drill out some pins that had the vintage rosettes & my drill would move but I was using my hand drill. The Dremel setup isn't as precise as this is.
Yeah, the rain just stopped about 5 minutes ago but I hear thunder in the back ground. Quite a few inches of rain have fallen just in the last 2 hours but I'm okay where I'm at. I just looked at the radar on my phone & more is coming, a lot more!!!! Thank you Shaun.
Sweet Lil drill press, Steve.
Thanks Mike. I found out about this place called Micro Mark & they sell HO trains & others along with accessories like small trees, buildings, cars & trucks but it cost a lot of money to have a small train layout. They also sell small machine tools like this drill press & even small lathes & such. I got it on sale for their summer sale but I think I got an email earlier that they are having another sale. I need to look. I should have bought a light they have that is flexible with a magnetic base so I could use it on the drill press.
I was thinking the same thing. Unimogs are just cool no matter what.
Steve, that drill press is the cats meow my friend. That will make it quite simple to do precision drilling and repeat it if needed I'd think.
Great score :tu
Stay safe and dry Brother
They made the same model of Unimog for something like 30 years, so there are a lot of parts around and a ton of aftermarket parts. They are suppose to be pretty inexpensive to maintain. There are a few here in town, and I have always wanted one too.
Look like it would make a great vehicle for hunting camps, around here, as well as where your at, Shaun.
They do not go fast but they do go everywhere and carry a serious amount of gear.
I could store my hones in that thing. :beer2:
Wait! I have an idea... the HONIMOG!

Now I'm no sewing type of person but when I put my mind to something, I can normally handle doing what is in my mind as a project. So, I wanted to makes some "Strop Socks" for all my strops.
Picked up some material at the local Wally World and dug out the wife's sewing machine along with the 100's of threads she has. Now I'm not sure why she has this stuff as I think I've used them more than she has and sense she don't look over my shoulder or read what I put on SRP I'm safe. Ha.
Anyway, Here a couple pics of what I made. The backs of socks are sewed closed for the top 12" and the rest is open so I can deal with sliding them up easier than other socks I've seen. Made 7 different ones. Thinking I might pick up some iron-on letters to put on each one so I can easily find the one I'm looking for. This did take a a few hours to make these but it was fun. Hope you like them.

Jerry, those are way cool! I have another member in mind who made some but I can't think of his name at the moment.............Razorfeld I think.
Currently getting my bone scale Cattagarus back together. Thinned the scales (belt sander rocks!) Reworked the wedge which is not perfect but I'm gonna go with it since I'm sick of fiddling with it. Just have to pin the pivot after dinner.
A lot of work and most of it was by feel and intuition (after watching some tutorials) in hindsight I probably wouldn't have started with horn...man that stuff stinks!

That's a 'stache trimmer. I have a Henckles like that. Looks like you have a scaled down version of the truck you drive Jerry.
Its a truck but not like mine. It does have a fuel tank trailer too. I used to put it in all my pics but have slacked off lately. Thanks for noticing. Yep, This little razor is just to have a 2/8 razor. Not like it will go in the rotation. But it will fill the spot so I will have everything from 2/8 to 8/8. Just because, you know.
Here's a Henckles Shorty that was made that way compared to my W&B Masonic razor I'll be restoring in the near future. The blade edge length on the Henckles is 1 7/8" compared to 2 7/8" & the overall length is 4 7/8" compared to 6 3/8". I also found my Henckles 'stache trimmer. I wouldn't have found it so easy but awhile back I started putting certain makes in larger boxes so they would be easier to find. The 'stache trimmer is 5/16" wide. The last blade was in a Henckles coffin so it would be safe but it is a very nice MOP covered tang Clark Brothers with a worked spine that I need to make some scales for. I might just get started on that soon. I have a stash of bone, horn & some cocobolo blanks.

I know what ya mean. It used to take forever to make a set of scales but I bought a cheap belt sander at HF & it works good for what it is. I'll get me a better one. I see them all the time on Craigslist but when I saw some good used ones, I didn't have my truck that I now have.
I'm actually worried about Tom. We heard from him last night but not a word today. He might have water in his house or a power outage, possibly both but I pray not!
Yeah because we've been getting hammered all day long but I have nothing to worry about so far.
I think if you have a very strong smell from the material you are working on a belts sander with, you need to up you dust control. When sanding the thing you need to remember is that it is the very fine particles that are a health hazard. It you have a strong smell but little airborne dust, that is the dangerous stuff. Dust control is an amazing thing, or a respirator.
Here's my skinniest razor, 4/8. I haven't honed it yet; I bought it because it was cheap and pristine. I don't even like using a 5/8 that much, so... I guess I have RAD.
Attachment 272103
Very true Shaun, it isn't healthy to breathe the dust. I had some of those cheap masks & my belt sander was right by the garage door so I wouldn't breathe it. I can buy myself a better respirator now, even though when I did use my belt sander, I held my breath at times but I hardly would smell it then but when I did, it stinks like when Sdm84 mentioned it.
Air volume and filtration is very important in dust control, amd for the little sanders we use there are some very good shop vacs with both of those features. I have some more serious tools, so I do have a very large dust collection system, but I still use the shop vac regularly or the little things. I often use a light bag in my shop vac and a serious pleated filter. The good filters are made of poly and not paper and you can clean them with the water hose and dry them, with also helps in dust control.
