Well I even have a spoke shave :0 guess I found a new use for it.
And it seems I might have to get a few more of the old timer tools. Most wood work I've done has been mostly hand done.
Made my 2nd oldest sons high chair, no power tools at all.

Been going through some of my flea market finds and others the last few days and cleaning them up, doing whatever was needed to get them into the rotation. These three I made scales for using acrylic sheet, top to bottom a John Prince, a Christian & Son (Boston), and a Case Bros.

These were cleaned/polished, scales polished, some broken down then repinned. There's "Gun Metal" WJ Donovan (Mass.), "Mack" W.E. McDonald (Mass.), "Black Diamond" Vassili Thalis, a Howe 4/8ths, and a Genco Fluid Steel.

and finished up with this pair sent to me as bare blades and scales by a generous fellow who's been know to frequent these parts. A Friday and Monday Wilson & Son, they just needed a little cleaning, scales cleaned and polished and pinning. Thanks sharptonn!!!

I'm in for some quality time on the hones but these hollow grinds will be a nice change of pace from the recent wedges I was honing. Gotta "go easy" on these!

Oh I wouldn't say that as this site has many, many 6" long Inlace Acrylic 1.5"X1.5" blocks and for a Very Reasonable Fee will cut them into 1/8"+ blanks for you.Quote:

Hope it smokes as good as it looks. The cross grain really pops. Almost looks like tiny script running across the pipe.. And now back to shaving stuff, lol.

Two questions Mike, What is the stem made from? What tobacco blend do you smoke? I know nothing about pipes and tobacco but I am very curious.

Amphora was the blend I remember my dad smoked,so I'm going to start with that.
Never smoked a tobacco pipe before but I thought the project looked cool, and I have read that pipe tobacco can be quite delicious, for those that find flavor in smoke delicious that is.

The stem is one piece of delryn Rod turned down with a brass accent added as an afterthought. I read that folks use wood, or acrylic with delryn inserts for their stems, but found the acrylic kind of hard against the teeth so decided to try the one piece design. Biggest problem I read about the delryn was that it's hard to repolish once turned. So I took my time with the micromesh and it came back shiny enough for me.
Well I think I'll start on these next.
A two day set of 6/8ths.Taylors, in ivory.
Both, cracked at wedge. But only on the B side.
Blades are a bit of a mess, and the box is in dire repair.
This is a project that was sent to me from Mike T, before he disappeared " AGAIN "!!!!
He asked if I would make them live again, since he hasn't the time to do them himself, and couldn't see them rotting away in a drawer.
I found the materials needed to repair this, and the other two day box that's still on the back burner, today. But haven't made the purchase yet.
And I'm in the process of making another " Outback Magna Badger " for a member who desperately needs one.

I don't think the 3M, is gonna cut it on these two. These is gonna need some paper put to um, pretty thin, so I'm expecting some pits.
I'm thinking a couple layers of light weight, woven fiberglass for building RC airplanes, epoxied to the inside of the scales, should be enough to strengthen and stop the scales from cracking any further.
That's a project outback!

Century brush update -
Wet sanded with .6K and 1.2K. Will give it a couple of hours on a sunny windowsill to help evaporate the moisture.
No pics, I'm sure you know what a scuffed up rubber handle looks like.
In the meanwhile, I'll start cleaning up a couple of Shumate 135s I picked up awhile back. I didn't know that there
are different points on the 135, I thought they were all round points. Not really a square point, french maybe?

Going through some blades trying to find one that's worthy of these scales, and also fit properly. This one big Boker King Cutter fits perfect, but I'm not sure it's worthy of these scales......

The top set of scale is a replication of the vintage ones on Toms Bengall, and the other set is from a Henckels 17. So the razors you seek are all pretty big blades and the 17 is fairly long as well.Quote:
