Sadly, one seems to follow the other, these days! :D
Nice work fellas. I finished up my W&B the other day. Came out pretty good it just needs a hone and see how it shaves. Made domed washers for the first time with a homemade doming punch. It was a larger blunt punch that I put in the drill press and rounded off. All in all I'm satisfied with this one.

Thank you very much. I had a lot of fun working on this. A lot of challenges too. I just put a few strokes on it on the 1k, I can see this will hone very different from the hollows I'm used to honing. Looking forward to the shave test.

My girlfriend wants to start mountain biking so I managed to find a frame that will fit her. I'm now busy sanding down and prepping the frame for a respray.

So I am satisfied my old Lancet-edge can take a good bevel, Began to think about scales.
These had a top rebuild on one side, crudely done. Crack at the bottom pin, delamination inside.
Attachment 243961Attachment 243962Attachment 243963
I found no horn scales around that would fit which did not need a pile of work. None of the ivory/bone scales around fit properly. Everyone knows I am lazy, right?
Dug out this fairly plain sterling set from my 'silver mining' days. Going to try these....
Pushing out some dents, straightening wavy edge, etc and polishing them up a bit.
They have an inner 'bridge' which goes against the blade, but there is an air gap in-between which can result in a dented outer scale as someone bashes on it to tighten the pivot. One side was indeed already dented in.
Attachment 243964Attachment 243965
I oversized the outer pin-holes (but not the inners) on both sides and sized a few of Babur's collars to bottom on the inner bridge. Using some small domes over will hide some of the dented side, I suppose.
Attachment 243966Attachment 243967Attachment 243968
Got a test-fit going. Worked-out pretty well. Had to sit and file forever with a jeweler's file to get the end of the blade in.
Scales look too short until the razor is closed....Then, they look too long! :D
Attachment 243983Attachment 243984Attachment 243985
I guess the 'shiny diamond in a goat's azz' deal is on. Was not going to, but will do some rubbing on the blade and more polishing on the scales before pinning it up permanently.
Opinions are welcome?

Tricky fitting with that blade. Is that what they referred to as their lancet point? Looking good Tom. Nice to see those fancy scales working.
Truly,, that's a looker in the making buddy!
:tu
Yup, it does....
That is blowing me away! I love what you got going there, I especially like how you got the pins and collars to work. Tricky on the inside, a smooth looker on the outside. The point is great as well, nice job getting it to tuck into those scales. Just a classy looking razor! :dropjaw:
I am getting happy with it, Shaun. It will be blade-heavy, but as long as it's sharp and tight, it won't matter.
Yes, a Josh Mappin and Bros Lancet-Edged Razor. Strange beasts, this example is a bit worn and thin.
I think the lancet end originally protruded a lot farther. Strange enigma razors and an extreme some tried to copy, I think.
This one is over 7/8, but have not measured it. I have seen them over an inch.
Wullie has a nice one in ivory. I will attempt to find it.
Working on a sweet Slim adjustable that I was given on the weekend by a gracious brother in blades.
Looking forward to what it's going to shave like once I clean it up a wee.

A fellow back in '08 had this pile!

What are those, Tom? Can we get a picture from the side?
Josh Mappin and Bros Lancet edge razors!

Those Mappins are Fine! I saw your honing photos yesterday but the tape obscured the frame. The silver scales look good, too.
In related news I touched up my TI frameback on a Thuri last night and will shave with it tomorrow.
Man, The old Mappins shave a treat! :y
So the dented pivot on one side was bugging me. I found a screw which would thread-in the outer hole and used it to push the scale out, applying pressure from the inside. Worked well!
Attachment 244032Attachment 244033
So I had to size another collar for that side. Changed my mind about the small domes as they were a tad too big.
Mated a few of Ajkenne's silver collars up over the inners from Babur.
Works much nicer and gives a 'double stack' effect.
Anytime you can elevate the peening by a tad, means you will not need to strike sensitive materials. Unless you are going collarless, of course! :D

Decided not to mess with the blade, sanding and such. some CroOx and crocus/WD40, a bit of buffer, and some Maas by hand will do. After the scales lightly tarnish, it should all meld-in.
Attachment 244037
Real nice looking razor you got there Tom..
I'm cleaning my Clauss. Look familiar?

Thanks! Ajkenne's collars are really nice to work with!
I finally just now got it all pinned-up. Don't see any damage to my bevel from all the work, so I will start on the Naniwa 1k tonight.

That thing has the 'George Korn Patent' grind! :)
Attachment 244052
I was gonna ask you about the grind. Just got done honin and shavin with it. Great razor!! Where the heck did you find the t-shirt?
Fleabay. Seller is 'patentearth' . They have wonderful Gillette patent, barber chair patent shirts as well. Seem to be nice folks.
I think he could come up with most anything he can reproduce. It takes 3 weeks to receive.
They don't start til you order. Yadda-yadda.
Like at a concert. 25 dollar t-shirt! :D
(no relation!)
I saw a brush Marfin had done a while ago that looked like this one , and I really liked the look. I was rooting through my unpacked box of wood in my basement and found a piece of Briar burl that I had started to turn, and quit because it had a substantial split in it. Well, next thing I knew I had it on the disc sander and ended up with this.
Attachment 244128
Some of you have probably seen the Marfin brush I'm talking about, it's beautiful. Something inside told me I had to try it. I think it came out pretty good. Now to sand each of these sides probably down to 1000 and hit it with some 100% Tung oil. Still gotta drill the hole yet too.

Working on new scales for a Marshes & Shepherd with a tapered blade. It looked kind of beat up at first but all the crud on the blade was actually dried oil or grease of some sort. It seems to have protected the blade from any serious rust and pitting over the years. I was happy to find an etching along the spine reading "An Excellent Razor".
fantastic work on those scales!

Matt, I have one of those.....It will knock your socks off as it gets to shaving! Great grind.
Stiffer, but not a wedge!

THAT will be Cool, Andrew! No doubt!
