I was wondering the same thing Mike
I think Tc has been into the bourbon again.
BTW. Gonna really enjoy the maduro/Java in the morning. I can smell the cocoa, and coffee notes, it will definitely enhance the fresh ground Columbian in my cup O Joe. Mmmmm, can't wait till the wife's at work. Gotta get my wooden matches out, its the proper way.[emoji18]
Ahh I see....
And yes sir, that is my favorite morning cigar with my coffee. They compliment each other very well
Only time will tell buddy. I've had swelling, then after it went down, I felt the pain more. Lets keep positive & hope for the best. I know my back is screwed & sometimes I feel something pop in there when it's hurting more.
Well, my buddy that's into straight razors too came over because he wanted one of those generators I had. I told him I'd give it to him for what I paid plus he had borrowed my Shapton base & 16k so he brought it back but his family was one of the ones that were under mandatory evacuation when Harvey hit. He was glad to get it plus I had room to put my 10k watt generator together. I had to put the axle, wheels, handles & stands on it. It's a heavy unit.

I had to use my big pry bar to pick it up on one end & slide some 2x4's under it to put the axle on, then pry'd up on it more to slide the wheels on & finish the other things.
Yeah, I was wondering if Tc had been reminiscing the '60's...........
Got the resto bug and decided to fix up this ERN Vanadium. Didn't take much, a little work with a box cutter to scrape the rust off the heel and bottom of the tang. I used a flap wheel and scotch brite pads on the dremel to push the stabilizer line up a little bit. Then did some hand sanding.
Scratchy blade.

800 grit through 2500, then some rubbing compound and metal polish.

Not perfect but the scratches are gone.

Tomorrow the stones. Feels good to get another one out of the box and into the Den.
Have a good night guys.
Nice wok there Matt.
I back-slid!
I'm not buying razors but I just couldn't help myself. Picked up this C Mon Blackie from the B/S/T thread. The scales were warped to the point that they were touching on the bottom side and had a bit of a S shape. Not really bad but it gave me a good reason to take it apart and clean it. Straightened the scales with hot water and a few clamps between steal plates. Sanded the scales a touch to get rid of a few scratches and pinned with same color pins with stacked washers. Measures 11/16.
It was shave ready but after I did a little hand polishing on the blade I touched it up on the 12K stone. Much better now. Too bad the black has worn off and the diamond is not red any more. But all in all I'm happy with how it came out. I didn't have a C Mon in the collection. Its not fancy, but I now have one.

Great work Jerry!
I believe that I understood what he was saying perfectly.
You Can't Over Strop
You Can Under Strop
And;
You Can Strop Badly (Improperly)
I've met Tc in person and I really don't know how he can get those gorilla sized fingers to work on a Cell Phone OR a Computer Key Pad.
You should try a Arturo Fuente Cuban Corona. It is a very nice cigar. Got to smoke a cigar that was made from that famous N.J. pre-ban pallet of Cuban tobacco that was found and rolled into cigars. My local tobacconist had a bunch of it. A mazing!
The C Mon gave a great shave. Just got done and I'm very happy with the outcome.
And TC is a thick skinned individual. I thought I pissed him off when I first came to this site by a comment I made. I sent him a PM to apologize for my comment and he said it was no big deal. Didn't bother him at all. He told me he speaks his mind and pisses people off that dont know him. We have gotten along great ever sense. Hope to meet the man some day and have a beer!
Good go on that CMon, Jerry. Made alongside of Burrell Top-Flights during WWII and a while after. Thin suckers, those! Fine shavers! :D
Thanks Tom. I was guessing 1950 but I guess I can change it in my log now to 1940 to 1950. And it IS a thin sucker for sure.
Had no problem understanding.
I just couldn't understand what it might relate to, as per conversations going on at the time.
Banana hand syndrome...
Like shaking hands, with a bunch of um
My problem is calluses, manual labor my whole life. Feet are the same. [emoji1]
Wait.......what?
You shake hands with bananas Mike???
Huh learn sumthin new everyday......no matter how odd it might be
I know guys that I say have hams for hands, you know, so big you shake hands and can only see your wrist.
"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana."
I worked with a manager who would call over-tightening something "gorilla fisted". Originated with a guy that was notorious for assembling products that would become impossible to service without a breaker bar!
Lots of info, right and wrong. Some speculation and fact here......

Tom, one day I figured Burrell must have been a part of the Case family when I saw Ellicottville, NY was in the same area as Case & all the other Cutlery firms related to them. I have two of those C-Mon Blackie's & now I need to dig 'em out to see if they have that USA on the end of the tail. I have a Top Flight too & it's a nice razor. The Blackie's are nice also, one has some slight hone wear but no big deal.
Then below I have the family tree beginning with Platts, Case, then Platts/Case. The next pic shows Cattaraugus County that shows some of those towns where some of the cutlery's were. The last two are the chronology of events beginning eith Charlei Plattas & ending with Western Cutlery in Boulder, CO.

Thanks for sharing the info Tom. I did read the other thread you linked too. Mine does not say USA on the tail. And by going with what the other thread says, I'm guessing that this razor was made during or right after WWII. So that's cool. My Dad was made at that same time. Ha. Maybe I need to find him one of these razors as I got a great shave from it.
And as I've said a few time before, I'm Ham Fisted too. But in the original way! Ha.
Yeah, Burrell was a knifemaker. He married one of WR's daughters, I think.
Those Top Flights are purely C-Mons as it comes down to it.
If it says Made in Ellicotteville or Allegheny, It's Carl Monkhouse!
Spent some time with some metal polish and a toothbrush cleaning up a couple of SE razors tonight while watching some tv with the misses.
Attachment 274438
Really pleasantly surprised how well the Rolls cleaned up.
The valet looks pretty nice but there is a little wear in the pivot that prevents smooth flipping on the strop. Think I can turn a small brass bushing to take up the slop though.
Both a couple of neat travel razors in the re-making..
Cheers.
Wow! They cleaned-up nicely!
No worries about the strop thingy. These feathers get tossed as they are done.
I don't think the strop works on them? Anyone?
Attachment 274439Attachment 274440
Good point Tom, and those feathers look like they are a perfect fit. Guess the effort to turn a micro bushing could be better served on other projects.
Thanks for the reminder that they are 'disposable' blades for a reason hehe..
Seems I read where Feather had bought the Autostrop design a long while back.
I had thought a while ago that as as good as they shave with the Feathers and as cheaply as the razors can be had, wiping all that stropping crap off the top of one would lighten it up and make for a better razor.
Quite a few new SE razors are being made to use these blades.
I suppose the blades are still being made?
I shall try that!
The ones you sent me, worked well in mine, Tom.
I've been working on some ivory scales. You guys may remember I had some just like these but they were stained plus the etch was very worn. I never could get the staining out as some of you suggested at the time but quite some time back, I found another George Wostenholm & Sons. Interesting enough, I got it very cheap because of the blade that was in it.
Attachment 274469
I usually take a before pic & didn't so after I got it apart, I put the old blade back in to show what it looked like before. Then using my drill press I love so much, I drilled the pin.
Attachment 274470
This drill press is the ticket!!! I got another razor with a blade that matches the ivory scales, so I thought it would look nice dressed in the ivory.
Attachment 274471
These scales were much more narrow, so I had to position the clamps in a different way & drilled the pin & suddenly the collar popped off, so I knew I nailed it. :y
Here's the blade going into the ivory scales.
Attachment 274472
Now I need to finish it but will be very careful so I don't crack or break the ivory scales. Whoever put that other blade in it used collars on it so I need to clean them up because there are some minor marks from the small collars the other person used. I have faith, I have done collarless peening before.
Pixelfixed told me to hydrate the old ivory with light mineral oil to bring some of the flexibility back to the material.
