I don't think I will be lining them, Shaun. They are not that important. But a long shorty would work out well. Now to find a blade with a bad tip. Well, After I finish paying off the C.C. That sucker is haunting me!
They are blood thirsty demons Jerry. Get rid of them as fast as you can.
Wish I could Shaun. I will get rid of a couple soon. But I will still have a wallet full. Come on Lottery! Ha.
Mega Millions tonight.
We're all allowed to do at least one boneheaded move in a lifetime. Back when I was still working, I came home on my Harley. I was dirty as always & I washed my clothes & forgot my garage door opener was in my pants but it was too late. I got it out of the washing machine & nothing would work so I took the battery out & blew it out with compressed air. Checked battery, was good so next day I put it in & nothing, not even the led light on it. Found it the other day. It's been at least 10-11 years. I checked the battery & it was still good. I put it in & the red led light came on. I tried it but nothing. I moved the code switches back & forth & put the right code back in it. Darn thing works! It had pelny of time to air out. If it wouldn't have worked, I was going to spray some Deoxit in it. That stuff works good for radio/stereo/guitar volume & tone pots when they start getting static sounding.

Thanks guys. I made a shorty once before but it a very short shorty. But its smiling like a big dog. Im all for making another. Hate to waist the scales i just made. And i wont make this mistake again! I hope. :)
Looks like ive got a max length of 4 3/16 from pivot pin to tip. So ive you do have something that will fit send me a PM and we'll talk.
I also have a shorty, thanks to Outback! He guided me through the process of how to cut down the blade and it turned out really nice. From heel to toe it is 2". Also had to cut down the scales to fit. Mike sure knows how to take a broken razor and make it into a serviceable one!
I had a big knot (28mm) hanging around forever, so I thought it was time for a brush attempt.

How was drilling it? Hard stuff for crap forstner bits that I have to file to get a decent edge on.
Nice work on those skins Shaun. And that big brush!
My hiatus from straights is starting to weigh on me. Need to make some time to hone a few goodies.
And a few to dos to do from a man who likes to send me challenges.
Inlays in my future men..
:beer1:
It was a long, slow, and squeaky bore Andrew. I have to say I am very happy to have a decent X-Y vice for my drill press. I think I am going to do a run of elk antler brushes and use up the antler I have here, I’m sure I can get more if I need it. Xmas is coming and I need to get crafty.
We have missed your work B52. Get on with those inlays, scale making and turning. I happen to know there is no shortage of projects in the lab.
Here's one I made 2-3 yrs ago using a forstner bit in a drill press but that's why I wanted my lathe because it did walk on me on another one. This one is a 28mm. I also made a 26mm. The horn was soft in the center so I had to put thin CA in it so that it wouldn't walk as bad but still did. I just got lucky on the two I did make. I originally used those Chinese knots & they started shedding so I got a couple replacements from Brad Maggard. Don't have to worry about the walking with a lathe. Not only that but with a lathe, I won't need a forstner bit.

Well....I have painted myself into a corner again......7 day set of NOS Herders. All different numbers. Gaaaa! :banghead:
It will be nice. I have the box sorted and all.
Since I began with them, I will use Sorin's bigs and littles. Nothing could be more solid with this bone.
I got him to make me all he had material for. Just enough!
Got a pile of spacers too.
I will have to unpin the #30 I just finished and use those collars to convert it to the bone scales. Kindof bummer there...
I have 5 more sets to disassemble and taper the wedges. Blades are sorted. More work to do!

The #29 is done.....A teaser!

Very nice knife, Pete! :tu
Nice folder.
Beautiful work.
Pete <:-}
That's a great looking folding knife Pete.
Tom that isn't a tease Tom - that's abuse of the beholder! Great stuff that!
Thanks Tom. I havent got any replys yet. B7t its just another project for winter time anyway. Im gonna be waiting for the 7-day set. That should be a real nice one to see.
Sorry Jerry, I got distracted. Just got my once a year cold.
I was crawling around under a house last week. My friends house is sinking on one side 6". Apparently it's an issues in the area (filled in marshes).
So I'll be jacking his house up. Kind of a cool project, did it for a customer in June, but you gotta crawl around under the house in a damp and moldy crawl space... Moldy.
I'm quite sure that I have that blade but I'll check this morning to make sure.
Been a little slow on the razor work the last couple days, getting things ready for winter, around the house.
But I did get a couple sets of scales fixed up for MikeT.
One set in particular, is a new challenge for me. Its a set of pressed horn that had bug bites in the lettering, after filling I'll have to carefully carve out the lettering again.
So yesterday I purchased a lighted magnifying glass to accomplish the task. Guess I finally get to use my carving tools again.
For now, their soaking in oil.

Good choice on dying those black, I was looking back at the other similar scales you did and the black with the gold letters sure does stand out nice!
I was looking for scales for that EBRO for years. I hope you can use those bone scales for something as they were nice ones I think.
Thanks Mike! I'm home sick today from work and I don't watch cartoons, and don't have cable, so it will be reading old threads today!
:)
Get well soon, Mike.
The threads should keep ya busy. Lots of cool stuff in here, starting with last fall. Lots a tricks.!
Okay Jerry, here it is from my private stash of broken blades!
Oh yes, a glorious Herder 77! Never honed.
Pivot pin to break 4.08" or just under 4 1/8". The chip in middle of blade measures .79".
So after honing I guess you will be around 3/4".
Will it work?
Shorties don't get much better than this I'm thinking.
:)

A perfect example, for a great shorty
Get well soon Mike T. And the Herder looks like a winner to me. Its too bad that a blade like that being NOS and being broken. Id be happy to make a shorty of it.
MGM, good luck on the carving. I dont have carving abilities. I tried and destroyed a set of bone blanks/scales i got from Shaun. I tried it and its just not something this HAM Fisted guy can do very well.
What ive started doing lately with razors is going thru my collection and repairing so of the uglyness i did when i first started. Checking and fixing bevels so my edges are true, keen and comfortable. Replacing pins to get a cleaner peen and centering blades better. Its going to take a while but maybe in the spring i will be happy and caught up.
The broken Herders were sold on the bay a while back, can't remember but I think from the same people who got ahold of those NOS Herders some of you guys have been buying.
The cool thing is, IMO, that these blades were at one point perfect, and then before they made it out of the factory... accidents happened. And they sat with no hope for years on end..
Until Gatling-Gun Jerry gave hope where there was none..
Hehehe
:)
Gave a few away, still have plenty, and more to make.

Those look great Mike. A few are hard to see where they are shortened. Nice.
Mike T. I will do my best to make it shave again. And it would be my first Herder. Ive been wanting to get one but never thought this would be how it would come to be. If you need my addy just let me know. PM headed your way...
What will be odd is my shorty, Jim Slick (blade length 1.75) is made with the same scale material as the set i just made and broke.

Here's one of my favorite shorties. Henckels blade with reclaimed horn scales. Silver hardware, walrus tusk 2nd dentine layer wedge.
Left the scales with a worn vintage finish.

Not razor related, but didn't see other picture thread.
Daughter's cake last friday, 19th.

There is another thread entitled we have skills too. It is very random, non razor stuff. It’s fine here too though.
Nice cake job.
Did you make the fondant, josh.? My wife used to be a cake decorator.
Sorry! I didn't bake the cake. I usually don't post pictures of my daughter online, so I was just showing the cake from her party.
The ribbon on the cake in the first pic has the name of the Korean bakery. Not sure, but I believe it was a creme icing instead of fondant. Either way, they do great work.
