I started-out with a 7-day set of them.
Lessee...DD satin wedge, DD Special wedge, Morris wedge, Red Imp wedge, Brummel wedge, Cmon wedge, Checker wedge.
All clothed in identical bone scales cannibalized from a fairly common German razor at the time, A 'Venus' bought for the scales.
Honed them on barber's hones. Finished on balsa/diamond paste.
Kept those puppies humming along for over 2 years with a suspended, plain and unpasted 3/16 balsa strop.
No fabric. No touch-ups.
Them was the days......Simple. Cheap. Awesome shaves! :D
Sounds kinda outbackish..to me. [emoji38]
I do not have many modern wedges. A satin wedge and a Henckels 11V and 72V, I think that's it. Nice shaves for sure, but different from a Sheffield, perhaps due to weight.
I had bought some fancy razors. It was early-on in my experience. Did not want to screw anything up. It was before I joined the forum. Rolling-x was not in my pay-grade.
I knew I could get these straight-honed things going with what i had.
Went with it. Solid, sturdy, modern steel. Never did any of them let me down.
Sold the set a long, long time ago.
Still have a few of those modern-grind wedges.
Fun to pull them out from time to time!
Still shave great! :D
The only other one (besides this Hess I'm working on) is the Engels Wedge that you (sharptonn) helped with by sending a replacement for the broken back scale. I love that little razor, the grind and size makes a nice easy shave. So, as Mike B52 is helping me with the Hess, these two razor together are really special to me because you guys had a part in getting them working again.
Ok so my w&b project is back on track. So finally using the scales I made awhile back, issue #1 wedge is too thin at the front:/ looked fine during test fit but during pin up not so much..
#2 to me is seems my blade is sticking out the top of my scales too much. Remaking my wedge will correct both issues.
#3 im too tired to take it apart and make a new wedge tonight, or for the time being I might leave it as is and revisit this another day altogether.
Other than what I've listed what do you guys see? Anything I missed? Please criticize and critique so I can fix myself. Thanks for looking, yes I know the wedge is not shaped to the scales before wisenhimer Tom says anything ;)
