Interesting this thread showed up, the main reason, in the end, for the problem with the scales for my W&B Anchor razor, was the scales were very badly warped because the hole for the pivot pin wasn't drilled correctly, and the old scales were bent and warped out of shape to make up for the incorrectly drilled hole.
But yes, it was mentioned that this problem isn't that unusual in the older Sheffield blades, and the Anchor razor definitely has a lot of years on it.

Thanked: 13245There are some really good discussions about this from way back
Those slightly "Off" holes were punched not drilled, there was a bit of disagreement whether they became worse over the years, you guys know how those discussions go
The real issues and why some of us even started the sleeves was the we were pushing the tolerances tighter on the scale builds, 1/8"+ clearance was very common even 1/4"+ some were getting close to 1/2" on the distance between the wedge and the point.. When you have those large clearances the larger slop was acceptable, but we started building things a bit tighter and that gap shrunk so we started getting tighter on the pivot hole also...
Whether you need to sleeve it is a choice for you to make, to me it is a few pennies in material and a couple of minutes it time to take up the slack so it is an automatic...
