Thanked: 6Restoring a Dovo - Help needed
Hello everyone!
My father just gave me this blade a couple of days ago... I don't really have much info about it.
It's a beautiful 5/8 Dovo blade, the spine work is still intact and beautiful, red scales and the pin is tight and works like a charm. The etching on the blade is almost gone and it just says Solingen.
This blade has been in storage for about 20 years or so but I know it's been never been used, so it would still be a NOS blade. It has a factory edge and it's never been honed or sharpened.
Any advice on how to proceed with this, at least for cleaning and restoring the blade itself. I don't have any stones so I wouldn't know how to set the edge, never done it.
Any info on the blade itself or on what would be the best way to proceed would be really appreciated!
Cheers.
E.

You can't really do much without destroying the etching, any metal polish will wipe it right off.
Clean as best as possible with soap and water and send it out for honingNeed help or tutoring? Check out the .

Thanked: 375Very nice!, I like the Spine work. Might want to check out the vendors section if you want someone to restore it and or hone it. If you're asking what to do to restore it, check out the library on here. Other than that I'm really not sure how to deal with gold wash, all I know is if you use a polish it will remove it.

Thanked: 3223Yea, soap and water only. If you use a metal polish not only will it wreck the etch the gold will be gone too. Very nice blade, have her honed.

Thanked: 4826It doesn't look like it needs much. If you are super careful you can clean it up with a q-tip and polish. Other than that send it out. There are quite a few guys around that can hone. You might want to try this guy
