Glue used when shaping scales
Looking for another option to use when shaping scales during the basic shaping and sanding stages.
I read somewhere on the forum about a glue that can be separated easily with an exacto blade, then rinse off with some hot water., but can't find the thread now.
My previous method has been to join the 2 pieces together with 2 sided tape which works really well.
The problem with this is when I attempt to separate the 2 pieces they really sticky and can be quite hard to separate them.
This occasionally results in a cracked scale which is frustrating when I think about the time already put into making them.
The glue from the 2 sided tape can also be hard to clean off the scales.
I would like to hear what other members are using and how it works for them.
Thanks for your time.RickyB

2 sided tape brother!
Just use a exacto knife and work your way around the scales.

Acetone will dissolve the tape glue on naturals but no good for acrylics that's all
Saved,

Isopropyl alcohol will remove the tape residue too.

Thanks for the quick replies gents
I will give the Rubber Cement a try as that is reasonably well priced.
Now to find a way to get the shaping just right
Once I get the project (DD Goldedge restore) sorted it will appear in show and tell.RickyB

+1 on the rubber cement. Holds just fine and very easy to remove. Gently glide an exacto between the pieces to separate them, then rub the cement off with your thumb.

I put masking tape between the double sided tape and the scale material.

Thanked: 13245I you decide to try the Rubber Cement be sure to follow the actual instructions, the two pieces must be tacky before setting them together or it WILL take days for the bond to hold..

I think Baxxer's masking tape to make the double sided tape easy to peel off is a great idea & will definitely give it a go with some acrylic & horn in the next couple of weeks
Saved,
to shave another day.
