I had to remove the original binding from mine - despite being careful it was put away damp and some rust came through. It's almost impossible to re-use the binding, so after cleaning, I oiled it and then used a waxed leather thong to re-wrap - the sort that is available from hobby shops in the section for beads etc.
I've also seen some striking examples of coloured waxed cotton wrapped in intricate patterns - these look really good and are an improvement on the basic wrap in my opinion.My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

I like the look of pure steel kamisori. Steel seems to be addictive.
