Thanked: 39In fairness, it arrived in a condition that could be achieved by recently digging it out of the ground; so for once, the tetanus suggestion isn't ludicrous.

Thanked: 39Thank you for your kind words. I felt likewise and don't regret the labor involved - I am not in a hurry to do it again, however! I honestly don't know, I had hoped there might be a suggestion by a viewing forum member, but alas. It is hand forged and was excavated in England, so with absence of any maker's signature and the shape, an educated guess would be pre-industrial revolution: 16th - 18th century would be about as far as I'd wish to guess. This guess is more hollow and vacuous than tabloid journalism, so it should not be taken as scripture by any means. Should anybody have any further details, I would be much indebted if you could share it.

Thanked: 39Just as a heads up - most of the photos on this thread won't enlarge because I fail epically at technology but there is an identically named thread, in which the photos *will* all enlarge.
