I've done bench strops and used contact cement. Works perfect. Any access on the sides once dry u can just roll away with your fingers. Read instructions on proper use.

Your locations says Castleford and Hull.....I live in Hull and bought an Oak staircase spindle from the BnQ on stoneferry roundabout that i think matches your dimensions

    edit: Just measured it and its 41mm x 41mm x 900mm. sorry

    Edit again:
    Have a look at this

    http://www.diy.com/nav/build/timber/...skuId=13179311

that would be easy to cut down to the size you need

    3rd Edit:
Just a thought but are you set on oak ? BnQ do that free cutting service. You could buy a sheet of MDF and have them rip it down to the size you need.........mind you, you will then have enough to last a lifetime from 1 sheet of MDF hehe

Thanks for that, actually I have sorted some already should have updated the thread, my girlfriend's mother's friend is carpenter and he doesn't mind cutting me some oak pieces. Didn't really want to go for MDF just in case I get it wet or something.
