Default I was skeptical at first, but now...

I really understand why some people rave about finishing wood in CA (super glue, crazy glue, cyanoacrylate).

I got (very bloody) bored yesterday, and decided to give the CA a go on a rubish half of a razor coffin. Turned out quite nicely after a few hours of work.

I then got bold and grabbed my 5/8 Dovo that had dark red/black wood scales.

Well I gotta say... despite having a buildup around the pins (I know I should have removed them) the scales now look to be either highly polished ebony or well crafted micarta/plastic with the heft and feel of wood.

I was surprised at how easy it was to get an excellent finish on the wood scales with the ammount of effort put in.

A carefull sanding with 1200grit followed by a session with metal polish had them at a nice mirror finish. They would also look very nice with a carefull satin finish from a higher grit.

I'll be back later with some before/after shots (Im at work and cannot access the pics from here)

I recommend using a light-box setup. It did wonders for my photography.

    Yeah... I know...

I just have to put the thumb screws on the boss and get the pay raise approved first.

Or get a beer carton, packing tape or duct tape, some paper towels and a desk lamp.

Lancer, couldn't agree more. Just finished my first scale (yes, one) with CA and wow, it looks great. I can't wait to make some nice scales and go to town with this stuff. This first one wasn't bad, but I'll consider it a learning process.

I notice from hobby stores that CA comes in different types and viscosity's any tips for the best to use or does it vary according the material its being applied to.

I used the super thin stuff, it soaks into the wood really well, drys fast and allows multiple layers to be built up quickly
