Ok tried it with no luck, Ok a little, I had mold start to grow on top of the molasses mixture. It stained/ruined a set of scales that took on the color. Took off a little rust and crud. but after a week and mold appearence I gave up on this experiment. In a fairness I could NOT find any sorguhm molasses in metro detroit. So it was the redneck walmart brand that was as close as I could get.

What I read, he is using 10:1 mix. I have never gone that strong... well, maybe, once, but that was in college and I was drunk.

Thanked: 3164Very interesting, Guitstik!
I had never heard of this before, always liked treacle and golden syrup though, so I went to the larder to see if we had any - no! Seems like you cannot get real sorghum molasses in the UK - cookbooks with it in, yes; recipes with it in, yes; the product - no.
So I tried to track it down online with no success. The shipping would be a bit prohibitive from overseas...
I did find this site, though (about half way down the page - lantern cleaning info). It seems that it has been used to clean brass for quite a while - it is said to even strip paint if left long enough. The one caveat I found on its use on another site is to thoroughly degrease the article first. And remove bits - like razor scales - of course!
Regards,
Neil

@ guitstik
Very interesting read on this process.
Did you have to put oil on the razor following this treatment - to prevent oxidization and new rust forming?
It would be interesting to try this on a rusty blade if the Sorghum Molasses is available here.
Is the discoloration from soaking in Molasses hard to clean up?
Have you tried to get some photos of the process from initial treatment to finished product?
Sorry about the questions, just want to know how this works out.
Thanks for sharing.RickyB

I do have pictures I took to document the process. But since I went off the reservation and DIDNT follow the recipe it wouldnt be fair to post pics of me making a mess of what should have worked. Unless you all want a good laugh to see what not to do. But I make enough mistakes without pictures thankful ,so that i can say "It wasnt me".Dont want to further incriminate myself.
