Ed, you are right, the IQ part has no bearing on the use of unusual materials for the making of scales, brushes or hones, it was basically to let you know that my brain isn't wired like those of normal people and that I come up with stuff that is completely off the wall. Over the years I have been tested with just about all the different tests and even tho the scoring is different they all place one within a generic ranking system.
Jimmy, thanks. I will have to give him a shout out and see what he thinks.SRP. Where the Wits aren't always as sharp as the Razors

Thanked: 13245You might try some Google Searching using "MDF Cement / Resin Straight razor scales" IIRC I have seen it before, I also seem to remember one of the Pakistani companies using it or something like it on scales..

Thanked: 4827It seems to me that in some of randy's posts from days gone by the binder used in most of the barbers hones was shellac. Randy has a lot of the recipes for the barbers hones that were produced by the American Hone company. I agree that he may be the most knowledgeable person on the subject.

My brother-in-law has a 140 IQ, speaks five languages fluently and has three Masters Degrees. He can't believe that my IQ is higher than his seeing as I only speak one language, have never been able to finish any of the several degree programs I have started, and drive a truck for a living. It is only a number and nothing to get hung up on.

Thanked: 3164Most of the Oleans barber hones (made for a bewildering number of companies bu a few companies in Oleans) were either 'cold' or 'hot' - the cold were liquid left to set up and the hot ones were baked. Earlier incarnations were indeed shellac, but thy did not hold up well. As Jimmy said, Randy is da man for this info.
Ah, Guitstik dear boy - I feel sorry for you. Only 180 IQ-wise? Such a shame.
My own is 140,140 - quite impressive, or so I am told. Mind you, I am afflicted with double vision... HAR!
Regards,
Neil

The ability to speak several languages has nothing to do with intellect, in my opinion. The are are probably millions of souls that easily command at least two. I think typical of speaking several languages are all the immigrants that came from Eastern Europe in the early 20th century. I'll take my family as an example. My father, my mother's parents and a couple of unrelated uncles. All from Eastern Europe. All spoke Russian, Polish, German, Czechoslovakian (grandfather only), Yiddish, Hebrew and English to varying degrees. I'd swear my dad's accent got worse the longer he was in America. My mother, while a hell of a lot smarter than people thought spoke only Yiddish and impeccable English. You have an ear for language or you don't.
(and by the way, my IQ, last time it was checked was 155. Thought of joining Mensa but I hate tests with a passion.)Last edited by Razorfeld; 07-27-2014 at 10:16 PM.

Thanked: 44Wait, hold on, I'm confused. It might be because I don't have an IQ of 180 but didn't you say you had "just over two pound of cro ox" and was looking for ideas to do something with it !
I was really interested to see where this experiment would end but it sounds like it already has
