Thread: Any way to restore a chipped razor

Hey there, I recently started shaving with straight razors and came upon this one in my newly inherited collection. Is there any way to fix this chip I have the piece that was chipped off, is it worth saving?

From the size of the chip I'd say the blade is toast as far as restoring it to shaving condition. For pure display you could try crazy gluing the missing piece back in.

It can be ground out, if you really want to shave it..

You can make it into a reverse shorty like this.

I have reground several that way and they still shave very well and in some cases even better than when they were complete. I may be mistaken but I believe the ERN Ator was made that way by the manufacturer because the jimping on the bottom goes all the way up to the transition.

That one was rework by Tony at Taylors. He sent me the before pics, but I have not found them yet. We were discussing why a modified razor will bring money more than stock sometimes. Just comes down to the buyer.

Well then, from the pictures it looks like he did a fine job of bringing a razor back from the dead.

Can it be saved, yes. The real question is it worthwhile for you to do it or have it done?
If it was me, id let it go.
