Thanked: 2good donor for custom?
Hey all. I have a restoration in the works and got a great idea for a custom scaled razor. Don't want to blow a lot of money on this little project but also want to make it usable for shaving.
Any ideas??

Thanked: 2I need a cheap shave ready razor I can make scales for.
Looked at the gold dollar and not sold on the overall shape. I'm not wanting to do any blade customizing, just want to make a set of scales for it.

Thanked: 3215Chefs Knives to Go, Richmond 6/8 carbon steel razor $24.95.
It is a good looking, very well made, very hard, wide spine, full hollow ground razor with crappy scales.
Getting an edge took some work but, once you get an edge on it… It is a fine shaver that holds an edge a long time.
It is a great razor for customization with none of the problems of the Gold Dollar/Arrow razors at about the same cost…
Good Vendor too.

Thanked: 4827It is pretty tough to make scales for a shave ready razor and still have it shave ready when you are done. I'm not saying it can't be done just don't think it is a sensible plan. Even if you tape the edge while you are working on it to protect it may not work so well. Perhaps you should look for a nice deal ion a blade you can make scales for and then send it out for honing, perhaps part of the initial deal. The other option could be to buy a shave ready razor with mediocre scales and when it losses it's edge make your scales. I think there are many angle to this that gets you to the same place. Any idea what kind of grind or size of blade you seek.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 2I'd like the frame back style or just a huge hunk like Euclid posted. I may have to heat and bend the tang a bit.
Yeah maybe get a blade needing a hone should be better...
But that Richmond looks pretty sweet!
