    Another possibility is a spray product that Eastwood has for coating aluminum car wheels. It is really tough, and I've used it on oxygen tank bells I've made which have a rust finish.

    I got it from a hobby store, it's called brass shim stock and it came in a multi pack I believe this was .005 thickness if I remember right
