French razor. 42 garantie Paris hb520. I think the garantie means the same as warranted(?) I am at a loss with the maker, hoping someone can chip in with some info on this, any where I can find reference to the info above there seems to be very little said, if anyone can identify maker and/or rough dates it would be appreciated.

I cleaned it up with autosol

Hit the hone tonight. After the polishing. Took an edge almost right away, when starting it was smooth on the tnt, within a few laps on the Norton 4k it was biting hard. A few more on the 8k it was tree topping like a dream.

A really beautiful, elegant and delicate but not fragile, razor.

Now it's time to sell it to put towards a new finisher.

I'm sure it is. Sometimes you just know. I'm currently doing the sponsored decembeard event in aid of bowel cancer. So can't shave test it yet but I find if my arm hair pops its pretty much ready to shave with

Really happy tonight. I never got to use this razor, I sold it almost as soon as I got it. I knew it was a good one, that way you can just feel it coming good off the hone and you just know its right. So tonight I saw one on ebay and got it with the opening bid. Can't wait to get it and get to appreciate it this time.

Many French makers use a number as a trade mark. For example Dumas Aine 32 or thiers Issard 69. Not sure who used 42, but I'll bet that number will lead you to the maker. There is a great directory of French cutlers but it's all in French and I can't remember the website off hand. I'll try to find it and let you know.

So, it turned up today. Fair bit of hone wear on it but nothing I can't work with. There is a lot of tarnish. There is some nasty gunk inside the scales I think because the tarnish is even along both faces and clearly follows the scale line. The bevel needs reset but I'm happy it will take a new edge nicely.

Not as nice as the one that I had before, but still I'm looking forward to seeing her out and getting to use it this time.

Can anyone tell me if this case is likely to be original? I think not, it seems a little over size for the razor, not a snug fit like I would expect on quality work. I'm thinking its most likely a tooth brush box?
