every time I see a shiny more modern blade I always think g10 or micarta , I think more of micarta though as g10 makes me itch and I find it hard to work with ..lol

I have 2 friodurs that at one point im gonna set in black canvas micarta with stainless rod & washers

WOW, that's a nice Henckles! That might be a blessing in disguise as that blade would look a lot better in some different scales. The ebony would look good but I just scored some cocobolo slabs the other day that would really set it off! One of them has a slight line on it from the masking tape that was holding them together.

All great suggestions guys! I'm on the fence about doing the rescale myself. I just don't have the best work bench or tools.

As far as material, ebony sounds good or maybe that wood that engine46 shared with us. My first thought was horn or ivory but this blade is a little too modern for those types iMOP.

Well, for what its worth, my .02 is to go modern with the scales for that great looking blade - personally I like Phrank's suggestion.

I like working with horn & you can find some horn & bone here at eBay:

    Buffalo Horn Scales 6” x 1 1 2” x 3 8” Pair 5404 205 204 | eBay

    Bleached Bone Scales 6” x 1 1 2” x 3 8” Pair Knife Making Slabs 5404 206 204 | eBay

You can use a belt sander if nothing else once you draw a pattern out or trace around the original scale. I have made scales out of bone also. Hre are some bone scales I made:

Here's some i made from horn:

You can also look in the library to see how to make some scales. If not then there's a guy on ebay that has been selling some scales here:

    johnloc1 | eBay

When I make scales, I use a belt sander & a scroll saw but if you don't have a scroll saw, you can use a belt sander to grind the material away. If you don't have a belt sander, you can buy one at Harbor Freight pretty cheap & they work good because that is what I use for now until I can get a better one. Pm me if you need any help.
