    Default Poorly sized wedge.

Just received a razor from ebay, I assume it was rescaled. The scales and the blade are in very nice condition except for one problem. The blade hits the wedge. It manages to clear enough to apparently seat the razor in with force, and it took some force to pull that razor out too. I was wondering if there was a product like an abrasive wire i could work in there and whittle a little bit off that wedge without unpinning the whole thing or doing damage to the insides of the scale. I remember something like a cheap wire saw that would come in the handle of survival knives. It seems like that would almost do the trick. I probably just need to scrape of a milimeter or two. Any suggestions?

A 'Rat Tail, Swiss File, would do it, but you may get away with using a serrated knife blade, depending on the material.

I have used small jeweler files to sand down a wedge as well as a stick with sandpaper wrapped around it, but with a file or sandpaper make sure you use something to protect the inside of the scales if you are worried about that since it can scratch up the insides of the scales pretty good fairly easy. The files I picked up at Menards and they have regular and diamond files. As long as you don't have to remove alot of the wedge it should be too hard to do. There are some vintage razors were the scales will actually shrink. Red Imps seem prone to that. I have had a few where I am assuming one scale shrunk while one didn't and cause what I thought was a really bad warp until I took the scales apart.

Thanks guys. I could envision what I need but my knowledge of tools is pretty small. So knowing the right things to ask for if I go into a hardware store helps.

A popstick with sand paper should do the trick

Thats a good idea. Was thinking of doing something like that but for whatever reason a popsicle stick didnt come to mind. I guess I need some different desserts around the house. But for the size I need a popsicle stick is perfect. Think Ill work some tape in there to protect the scales and just sand her down.

tape your scales first and as the tape starts to take a bit of a beating change the tape. It will only take a few seconds to slip a piece through.

I like to use a scroll saw metal blade (fine teeth per inch) just the blade between my thumb & forefinger and use it like a mini saw.
    Works like a champ.

Its a wood scaled razor. Not really sure how the guy missed that. The scales look brand new. Nicely made scales otherwise. Shouldnt be too hard a fix. Just need a chance to get to the store.
