Default Newbie - Big chip in Blade

I have this Blue Diamond 106 that has a huge chip on the end of the blade. is it toast or can it be rescued? I'm new to the straight razor world and recently came into possession of 7 razors. This Blue Diamond, A Cosmo Mfg Co. thats pretty plain, A red Imp 133 that I'm pretty sure has had the side replaced, one that only says Tagore on the blade, a Bismark, Genco and A. F. Shapleigh. All are in fair shape except this one with the huge chip.

I'd say you could turn that into a "shorty" by grinding the top and bottom of the blade back to the depth of the chip.
It will also depend how slowly you go, as that looks like a fairly thin blade.
Look at this chart and tell us what you think it is.
Oh, by the way, welcome to the SRP forum !!

Yep, make it a shorty. I have a Blue Diamond like that, it is an outstanding razor.

Well, best guess I would hazard is Full to Half Hollow. Leaning more to half hollow, with no experience what so ever.

I'd clean the rust off that razor and see what's underneath. If that part looks ok, then you can worry about the chip.

My Bismarck is a fantastic shaver. It will always stay in the rotation.

EASY fix for someone who has done it before.

Like holli4pirating said...check out the edge to make sure it will take a bevel before putting in the work.....

Shorty it. Its easy just go slow with dremmel and cut-off wheel. Cut from edge too spine. "SLOWLY" at low speed. Keep blade flat against a piece of wood. So it wont chatter and crack the bladeName: uploadfromtaptalk1429478906236.jpg

Don't forget to keep it COOL!
Don't want to ruin the temper of the blade......
