    +1 I thought a potentiometer or speed controller would burn up the motor like using a cheap cord that didn't carry a sufficient current. I don't know how all that works though. If it works well, that is great.

    It's going to burn out, it's just a matter of when. Those speed controllers are for motors with brushes. To have variable speed with a normal motor you need a three phase motor and a VFD.
