I like to retain as much OEM equipment as possible. BUT... I am a firm believer in having a "plan B".
In this situation, my Plan A would be to drill out the pin. Carefully. Plan A also falls well within the "wishful thinking" category; for me anyway.
Plan B would be to make my own domed washers from some flat ones. You will need washers that are likely just a smidge larger in diameter than the originals, and a Dapping block (sometimes called a doming block).
I've seen them at any craft store, and they usually come with the domed punches to do what you need. Harbor Freight has one with (linked below). Probably about the same price as the craft stores, but many more pieces to it.

Dude! It's a Spike! Whatever you do, just get it shaving! Cleaning it up within it's scales would be a winner, Looks pretty good?

I rest my case.

Am I missing something ? From the pics they just look like flat washers.

A small ball pein hammer and a block of hardwood endgrain up will do that job. Hit the ball pein hammer with another hammer to dish the washer below it.
I often used parts of this set to make whatever washers I wanted:

One of your cheapo stores should also carry them.
