Made a few turnings out of stabilized box elder. Really nice wood to work with. And that's a gorgeous example to cut your scales from prodigy! Going to be very nice looking..Just hard to choose your 'A' face cause there's so much going on on that blank.Quote:

Spent a bunch of time on it already with mothers and steel wool, but decided I had to take it apart to really do it right.
What's note worthy, for me, is that I revisited trying to drill out the old pins again. And succeeded in saving the original washers!
Difference this time is I filed the head three strokes before centrepunching. And held the scale in my left hand sort of biasing the drill bit in the direction I thought it should go , as Shaun suggested a ways back. Anyway, yea! Will be able to clean the insides proper, and reuse the original brass.

I do Steve, and that's just what I did this time. The bit started to drift and I dropped the scale end, drifting the bit back towards center. Knew I had it right when the washer popped right off!

So I unpinned MikeT's butchered blade 'Searsasori' today, wrapped it up in aluminum tape, sandblasted the hole and took it to my buddy for a plug weld. After a bit of disc, a couple of divots on either side. Gotta blast again and take it back over.

Dang Tom that hole is nearly invisible.. I expected there to be an off color to the filler metal..
So when do you start the grindorauma? Looking great so far!
Ofcourse Im not worried about it turning out okay... Ive got a Henckels Friodur that is being held hostage!!! Muahahahahahahah! :chop:

Tang hole has to be done so it can be all smoothed out. Then, and only then, will the butchering commence! ;)

LOL man I really love the Henckels but I would never keep it, even if you broke that Sears in half.
Im curious about the different age groups of Henckels... People say that the older ones are better and the newer ones so so. But this Friodur is a beautiful and balanced blade, you can tell it was ground very well.
I may hone it up, well it really only needs a touch up, it takes hairs off the arm well enough, maybe some time on the Escher?
That reminds me. Ive got this 12k Chinese stone that was never used, cut from big block and needs to get surfaced... Anybody know about that? Needs special tools to grind down? Tried sand paper and didnt get far.
