The Butchered Blade

Thanks, Steve. It is fine as-is for a butchered blade. I am certain MikeT can use his skills to smooth things out.

An old redneck with a mismash of die grinders, drums, Dremels, drums. A right angle die grinder with a blending disc. Some sandpapaer, diapads.
A total save, though!

I am thinking of a wrap from just past the tail end to the tang stamp. Then, a cool web pattern on the backside (which I have seen) the length of the tang stamp, the wrap continuing up front a bit. Tang stamp would show, yet tang would be wrapped?
A challenge for MikeT! :D

Just a thought...
Was thinking about the nail knot that we use in fly fishing. And the knot for slip bobber fishing , as a possible wrapping with the needed thread.
Would be tricky though, being in a lot bigger version.

Your wrap idea is intriguing with the webbing idea. Never seen it, can't wait.

It is a problem storing these. I made a piece for my one and only Kamisori from a chunk of Corian and an o-ring to secure it.
May do same for this one.

Speaking of which, they are calling for snow up here tonight. Best get my own skates out and sharpened up!!!

Hi, guys.
I scored a J. Rodgers locally, and both blade and scales needs some attention, but I am afraid to attach the blade by hand and round the sharp corners. The scales are turtle shell and I have the skills to make them shine again, but I am concerned about the blade.
Have you some advise for me?

wet sand 1000 grit paper on a wine cork backer wouldn't likely round off any corners if you applied even strokes.
Or steel wool 0000 and some polish first. Are you leaving it pinned or taking it right down to clean?
Doesn't look like it needs a lot to come back to it's glory.

Now that is is stylish! It looks way better than I imagined.
It could be left as is OR get wrapped, again it is hard to imagine it looking better. Good thing is that the thread can be removed if it's not right.
Saved the tang stamp!
Definitely test shave it man. I'll bet its gonna shave great.
I've never shaved with a kamisori style blade. It will be a good transition if I end up getting into that style of blade, and i can imagine I'll come back to this one often!

I already unpinned it. The scales needs some hot-wet welding and further stabilization. I'll glue polycarbonate sheets on the inside faces (kind of sturdy and very thin clear polycarbonate as the sheets used on cellphone screens) with very thin cristal clear vinyl resin (as the used to coat fishing rods).
I'll proceed with a cork on the blade.

Now that I see it, I really do like that idea to save a heel cracked blade. I have a couple actually that may be worth revisiting..
