So into the walnut now, preloaded with ammonia free brass polish as per the box, but I've added some of the polishing ceramic, which was still saturated in metal polish from yesterday's session.
I will reserve judgement till the process is completed, but don't think this will eliminate initial sanding below the 400 grit range regardless of grit used. Just doesn't have the mass to really bear down against the grit to remove the real nasty stuff.

I am not saying that it is going to work as you desire but the whole idea is that you can ignore it and get on with your life in the mean time.
It will add some HUM to your life though. :)
I use walnut shell and rubbing compound and unit for about two or three days. I often use that as a finish for a blade. It leaves a nice finish, not a high gloss but not really a satin either. It will cover 2K scratches but not much more.
Maybe it needs longer per cycle indeed. Will leave it running till Friday and see how the two blades fair. From the original thread it seemed 24-36 hrs was the going timeline for sessions, but longer can't do any harm so I will see.
Doing some google searching on the one blade and seems Richard and John Slack were quite busy making fenders, ivory dinner wear and other items in 1845 on Strand. Found a cool old newsclip with a bit on them.

In that article their kitchen ware went for ten shillings,, not sure what that was worth in 1845, but I'm thinking they were a meticulous outfit. They did electroplating and dabbled in silver steel as well.

Years ago when I tried the tumbler method, I used corncob (you can get it inexpensively from a pet store or Wal mart) with liquid metal polish, an ounce or two, I found the blades just laid on the bottom.
Adding a handful of brass caused them to rotate in the tumbler, really a vibrating tumbler. The brass rides on the sides, rotating along the bottom and up the front side, as it does, it is just enough to push the razor along with it through the media.
I only did one or two razors at a time. It will speed the process but as I recall it took a couple days or three.
