Default Any tips on cleaning up jimps

    Hi,
I have an eBay F Hederer that I was going to use to practice honing and stropping with, and it's cleaned up pretty well and shaves well now. The only problem I have with it is surface rust on the jimps. Is there any suggestions as to how to clean this out without having to take out the pin and remove the blade?
if I do have to remove the pin are there any suggestions for how to replace with a new pin and what to use?
Im very new to this but would like to be able to clean it up so it looks as good as it shaves.
The D in DMA is Duncan, my name.

I have a small, brass wire brush that I got from a hardware store that is used for cleaning solder joints that works great.

Just do not use the brass with an acid cleaner. You can plate the razor with brass. I like those small, cheap, Asian steel brushes for that job.

I use a wire brush as well, usually with a polishing compound like Flitz on it.

The best thing I have found for cleaning jimps, is 600 greaseless on a cotton wheel.

If they are very rusty, the razor needs to come apart to properly clean, because the tang at the pin is also rusted.

Here is a good link to restoration, (Welcome to the Workshop: How do I / Where do I / What do I / answers are here), the library / razor restoration has more info.

Photos are always a big help in offering advice.

I use a toothbrush to apply CLR. Then a soft brass brush perpendicular to the razor and brush out the dirt and dust. Rinse well with water and dry.
