Just got my first kamisori. A couple of ebay finds, cost me almost nothing so it makes up for the rough state. They really have not been treated well, not shown in these pics, it looks like a dremel with a sanding drum has been run over them. As a learning tool they will do just fine, and maybe with a bit of work will turn out ok.

I know next to nothing about kamisori, other than watching gssixguns (always) fanatic videos on honing. If anyone can point me in the right direction for resources to learn about these it would be great, I'd love it if there was a ' history of Japanese razors' type book or link if you can share any bits of info about these or kamisori in general then I'd be grateful.

I'll put up some better pics later so I can ask more about restoring these but in general is it ok to sand these as I would with any other razor restore?

    Merry Christmas guys

A few more images, as you can see the reverse on both has been subjected to something nasty. If these were western razors I'd go straight to the greasless compound, is there anything different in the steel on these that would make that a bad idea? As I've said above I know almost nothing about these razors. I did put them to the hone and they very quickly took an edge with almost no effort, a very quick test shave found them really comfortable.

Those look great to me. The rough grinding is from hand scraping the hollow afaik, with a 'sen' or draw knife type of tool.

If they gone up nicely, you're golden!

Ok so the rough finish to be expected on these?
